Jeremy Dericks 2/8
Today in class we continued to work on the organization step in our research paper construction process. My paper is going to expose the faults in the way that slavery is taught in schools. In the beginning it took me some time to really get a good idea about how I am going to focus my paper, but after doing enough research to get a good idea of the information I can get my hands on I was able to narrow it down to three main components of slavery that are not being taught correctly. For the organization step of research, students are to construct an outline and design it in a way that makes it easiest for them to understand. For me I chose to use the basic outline format. I was able to construct my thesis and three topic sentences. Underneath each topic sentence I independent and inserted a piece of evidence that I would use to support that sentence. Under each piece of evidence I indented again and use bullets to briefly analyze how the evidence supports the topic sentence. Mr. Rivers took time to go around the class and help students construct thesis statement, topic sentence, analyze evidence, or to simply just determine how to get the ball rolling and which type of organization format to follow. He helped me determine how to incorporate evidence from the SHS US 1 curriculum since not all of my evidence from that source is direct quotes. Also, he helped me by urging me to take time to construct a more in depth analysis of my evidence in my outline and try to relate it not only to the topic sentence but also to the these.
