Black Widow by Sarah Hoffman

BLACK WIDOW:
Just like BUDAPEST all over again!
HAWKEYE:
You and I remember Budapest very differently.

Above are two lines from the movie The Avengers. Many hardcore Marvel fans have pondered the question: What happened in Budapest? Introducing the new movie: Black Widow, written by Sarah Hoffman.

Agent Coulson of SHIELD sends Agent Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, on a mission to take out the infamous ex-KGB assassin Natalya “Natasha” Romanova, known as the Black Widow. They believe that she is after Svetlana Markovitchka, the CEO of the tech company AIM, a SHEILD ally, after many lawmakers in Budapest are killed with the signature methods of the Black Widow. Clint accepts the mission and flies out to Budapest, where he meets Natasha and she bests him in combat. They start talking, and Natasha shows Clint that AIM is corrupt. She describes her life in the Red Room, where she was trained. She talks of a fellow trainee, Yelena (nickname Lena), who was killed because they were friends. She tells him her story, finally convincing Clint to help her. Together, they infiltrate AIM, with Clint as Svetlana’s bodyguard and Natasha as a secretary. Natasha hacks into the security system, disarms it, then finds evidence of a secret room on the premises. She calls Clint and together they enter the secret room and find it full of weapons. There is also a single red book with a black star on it (note: if you have not seen Captain America: Civil War, you will not know the significance of this book). It connects AIM to the super soldiers, and proves that they are corrupt. As Natasha reads the Russian words inside the book out loud, Svetlana enters and reveals herself as Yelena, who Natasha thought was dead, but just had a serum that removed emotions injected into her (for all the Doctor Who fans reading this, Yelena is very similar to a Dalek: no emotions except for hate and anger). She knocks out Clint with a tranquilizer and fights Natasha. When Natasha calls her Lena, the old Lena comes out briefly, begging Natasha to kill her. She does so, and SHEILD hires her as an agent. There are also two post credit scenes: one referencing CA:CW and another where Clint meets Laura (his future wife) for the first time.

  1. You did a goof job with accomplishing all your intentions. It was good how you showed more of a humanistic side of Black Widow with showing her emotion.

  3. You did a great job accomplishing your second intention to give more screen time to Hawk-eye and Black Widow. This screenplay really focused on them and used dialogue to develop their relationship.

  4. This sounds like a mixture between an avengers movie and an episode of Agents of Shield. I really liked this and all intentions were met.

  5. You did a great job giving most of the screenplay time to Hawk-eye and Black Widow. This means that you did a great job in accomplishing your second intention. The screenplay focused on dialogue and the development of the relationships over the screenplay.

  9. I liked how the structure of your screenplay really reflects a marvel movie. You accomplished the intention where you wanted to further explain the relationship between Hawkeye and Black Widow because they spend most of the screenplay in the same scenes.

  10. I loved the marvel incorporation. You did a great job of accomplishing all of your intentions. The relationship between Hawkeye and the Black Widow was furthered which was good because the marvel audience never really got the extent of it.

  13. I like how you gave Black Widow a humanistic quality through her emotions in her backstory because it makes the audience not know whether to hate her or to take her side. Good Job

  15. I felt that the Black Widow in this screenplay really matched the Black Widow in the Marvel movies. It's almost as if you gave her a very ;) "humanistic quality".
