Marked- Jackie Dowd

The idea of romance is one that entertains the mind of people all around the world. The classic romantic movies comfort viewers by following the journey of a male and female lead beating all odds and ending up together. The male fights for and protects the female lead in most of these films, but not in Marked. Marked changes the way typical love stories go by creating a strong female lead who fights for the freedom to love Trevor. Blair lives in a world where the love of your life is chosen for you, however when she is paired up with an abusive alcoholic she takes things into her own hands. With the help of Amber, Pace and her new love interest Trevor, she joins the rebellion and takes on the challenge to fight against the government to win back their freedom of choice.

Marked changes the way female leads are seen by creating a brave character through her actions. She takes charge of situations without second guesses herself in order to help the greater good. This movie also shocks the viewers by bringing up details introduced at the beginning of the movie at the very end. This causes viewers to be in suspense and then shocked. This movie establishes an assertive tone through the main characters and how determined they are to stand up for what they believe in. All together this is a movie that should be on everyone's to watch list. It will inspire the minds of young woman to show them that they can do anything if they put their mind to it. This way woman will realize that just because they are in love does not mean it weakens them. Marked is a unique film that will change the concept of romantic films forever. Not only young woman would enjoy this film, but also boys will enjoy the action that is packed into this film. Between fights and comedy mixed into this romantic film it creates a movie that everyone can enjoy!

  10. You did a great job creating suspense by leaving the audience hanging at times. By not giving the audience an inside look all the time in the screenplay, they are left wondering. You made this untraditional and did a great job.

  13. This is honestly such a good idea for a film. It goes along with some of the distopian stuff that has been popular for the past few years. The idea is original and your screenplay does it justice. All of your intentions were met.

  16. This book creates a strong female lead who, even though a love interest is present, still has a personality and strength entirely her own. This creates an excellent role model for girls, and shows the importance of freedom.

  17. I thought it was a great screenplay even it showed a contrast from normal female leads who seem helpless and rely on the man they love as well as a contrast from strong independent women who stay single and don't rely on anyone. Fun read!
