The Last Show-Directed by: Michaela Kayal

Who doesn't love the movies? The ambiance is exciting, the trailers are exhilarating, and the popcorn is mysteriously better than anything at home. The cinema is a place where customers can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. These small details sound great; however, the movie experience is not the same for 17 year old Julia Iannuzzi. The angsty teen detests her mundane job as a clerk at Sparta Theater. Rather than embracing the luxuries, her experience is quite different. Every day is the same. The customers are relentless, the popcorn is burnt, and the soda is flat. Her infuriating boss Lindsey is always on her case. What makes this film stand out against the other dark comedies on the market is the fact that the seemingly dull town and job quickly take a turn when the town of Sparta New Jersey is attacked with nuclear weapons. The motley crew that works at the theater have to ban together and fight the impending threat: the nagging customers. The Last Show not only takes the audience on a frustrating and hilarious trip to the movies, but also immerses them into the life of a teenage movie theater clerk.

The Last Show is a film that encompasses aspects from an array of genres, and implements them into one twisted tale. This is a movie that teens and young adults will gravitate towards, but also middle aged as well. The younger demographic can really relate to characters like Julia and Dave, but what makes this movie stand out, is that the older demographic can also see a little glimmer of their children in the main characters. This movie also gives a completely different perspective on something as classic as going to see a movie. The customers are shown in such a derogatory light, and hopefully it will teach viewers to be cautious of their actions in public venues.Perhaps the most unique characteristic of The Last Show, is that the nuclear war is nothing but a setting. Viewers will pick up on the irony throughout the film, and how the real issue is not the fact that everyone in town is dead, it is that the customers are infuriating. The Last Show will without a doubt be a summer blockbuster. See it in theaters on July 21st, 2017.

  13. I like how you didn't change the charactres' names and you used them as themselves. I think it happening in sparat too was really funny. You can clearly find Julia's personality because of the way she interacts with her coworkers and the customers.
